Hospital - acquired pneumonia is one of the most common types of infection, prolonging hospital stay and increasing the cost burden for patients. A cross - sectional descriptive study was carried out on 37 cases of hospitalacquired pneumonia from January to April 2022 at Ho Chi Minh City University Medical
Center with the aim of determining the clinical,
subclinical and microbiological characteristics of hospital - acquired pneumoniae. The average age of patients was 61.1 with 54.1% male; 70.3% are in the Resuscitation Block. The mean time of contracting BV from hospital admission was 18.25 days. Most patients have chronic diseases, including cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, diabetes, lung disease, cancer, and liver disease. Most patients had invasive mechanical ventilation (64.9%). Most patients present with fever, and an increased need for ventilation. Common lesions on lung radiographs are interstitial lesions, opacities, and infiltrates. The rate of VAP with a diagnosis of microbiological etiology was 70.3%, with 24 cases (64.8%) of multi-resistant bacteria. Bacteria are resistant to most commonly used antibiotics. Acinetobacter baumannii had the
highest rate of antibiotic resistance. There is a need for ongoing monitoring and evaluation of high-risk patients and control of antibiotic use.
