The Global Adult Tobacco Survey (2015) showed that 45.3% of all adults who currently smoke were men in Vietnam. A cross - sectional study among 355 adult male smokers, using The Fagerstrom Test for Nicotine Dependence (FTND) scale, was conducted to determine the levels of nicotine dependence and its related factors in rural areas of Thua Thien Hue province. The results of study showed that 25.9% of participants had high nicotine dependence. Multivariate logistic regression model was showed that associated factors of this outcome were age of starting to smoke (OR = 1.941, 95%CI: 1.076 - 3.500), monthly average smoking expenditure (OR = 0.306, 95%CI: 0.138 - 0.683), smoking due to emotional reasons (OR = 0.185, 95%CI: 0.068 - 0.503), and intention to quit smoking (OR = 0.479, 95%CI: 0.234 - 0.979). It could be suggested to reduce nicotine dependence for adult male smokers. These can increase the smoking quit rate among smokers and reduce the burden of disease caused by the tobacco epidemic.
