A cross - sectional descriptive study was conducted to determine the incidence and describe trends of dengue fever in Vietnam during the period from 1999 to 2020. The results showed that there were a total of 1,844,407 dengue cases and 1,250 deaths during 1999
and 2020. The incidence rate of dengue fever per 100,000 population in Vietnam tended to increase, with an average annual increase of 9.6% (95% CI: 1.4% - 18.6%). The case fatality rate of dengue fever tended to decrease, with annual average decrease 11.7% (95%CI: 8.4 – 14.9%). The lowest average number of cases was in February to April, the highest number of cases was in July to November with 1 month of peak epidemic at this time. The incidence rate of dengue fever per 100,000 population was unevenly distributed among provinces/ cities and regions in the country, and it tended to increase gradually from north to south. It is necessary to further strengthen the prevention of dengue fever in the context that that disease is still on an increasing trend.
