Abstract

The study aims to describe village health workers’ awareness about their role in prevention, early detection and management
of common non - communicable diseases. The design of cross - sectional survey study was implemented in 2020. There were 168 rural health workers from 15 communes and wards in Nam Dinh province participating in the study. The results indicated that most of the village health workers were aware of their role in prevention, early detection and management of common non-communicable diseases. The most frequently mentioned roles were health education counseling and community mobilization. There were 5 out of 16 roles/tasks that had not been mentioned, these were not decisive factors for the success of non-communicable disease management in the community. The results revealted that the commitment and willingness of village health workers to promote general health and well-being at the community level.
