Characteristics of Acute respiratory infections in children under 5 years old treated at the Department of Internal Medicine - Pediatrics, Yen Lap District Medical Center, Phu Tho in 2020

With the aim of describing some clinical and
para-clinical characteristics of acute respiratory
infections in children under 5 years old treated
at the Department of Internal Medicine -
Pediatrics, Yen Lap District Medical Center,
Phu thọ in 2020. A cross-sectional descriptive
study was conducted on 150 children under
5 years old diagnosed with acute respiratory
infections admitted to the Department of Internal
Medicine - Pediatrics in the study area, showing:
The proportion of children with functional and
systemic symptoms: cough (93.3%), fever (32%),
vomiting (21.3%), poor drinking, poor feeding
(13.3%), runny nose (74.7%), ear discharge
(2.7%). Physical symptoms: rapid pulse (32.7%),
wheezing (25.3%), rales in the lungs (25.3%).
Para-clinical results: Children have increased
white blood cell count (54.7%), X-ray images of
lung parenchyma lesions (25.3%). Classification
of lesion location: upper respiratory tract lesion
location (74.7%), lower respiratory tract (25.3%).
Classification by pathology: acute pharyngitis
(48.3%), pneumonia (25.3%), tonsillitis (10.7%).
Classification by ARI: no pneumonia (26.7%),
pneumonia (71.3%), severe pneumonia (1.3%),
very severe disease (0.7%). Rate of antibiotic
use (100%), cough suppressants, expectorants
(25.3%); bronchodilators (9.3%). It is necessary
to strengthen communication on preventing
respiratory infections in children and promote
care and treatment for children at medical
facilities.
