Abstract

Recently, the prevalence of accidents and injuries among middle school students in Dau Tieng district has not received adequate attention. This study was conducted to determine the proportion of injury accidents and related factors among students at Nguyen Binh Khiem secondary school. A descriptive and analytical cross - sectional study was conducted on 352 students from January to June 2024 by randomly selecting students based on grade level and distributing self-administered questionnaires. The results showed that 71.9% of students had been injured at least once in the first 6 months of 2024. Common causes include falls (49.7%), traffic accidents (41.2%), being bitten, burned, gored, or scratched by animals (37.8%), burns (33%), conflicts, violence (20.5%), substance poisoning (18.8%). The study also found a statistically significant difference between accident and injury status and factors such as behaviors, age, and living arrangements with parents (p < 0.05). Thus, the accident and injury situation in the research location requires public attention due to a higher rate compared with other localities. More in-depth research is needed to clarify the risk factors for each type of injury, with particular focus on falls and traffic accidents.
