This study aims to analyze the factors influencing the current status of outpatient treatment management of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) at Lien Chieu District Medical Center. A cross-sectional method combining quantitative (direct interviews with diabetes patients using a structured questionnaire) and qualitative approaches (in-depth interviews - PVS, and focus group discussions - TLN). The survey results from 230 patients with T2DM were surveyed (average age 56.0 ± 8.3 years), showed that 65.7% were diagnosed through routine check-ups, and 87.8% were asked about their symptoms initially. The average glucose level was 8.2 ± 3.2mmol/l, and the mean HbA1C was 6.7 ± 1.6%. Nine in-depth interviews and two focus discussions group with patients and medical staff revealed that the medical center has conducted serveral management activities, such as designated units, procedures, and counseling rooms. However, challenges remain, including patient non-adherence, unhealthy lifestyles, and occasional medication shortages. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen the outpatient treatment management of patients with T2DM at the Medical Center, in which telehealth is a useful solution.
