Updated overview of management and treatment of hearing loss in children

Abstract

Hearing loss in children needs to be early detected and diagnosed, early managed and treated; otherwwise can result in speech, language, communicative and cognitive delays. Management of hearing loss in children presented according to age and hearing loss level of children. Treatment of hearing loss in children includes two main parts, rehabilitation of hearing function by medical and/or surgical treatment and hearing aid devices consisting of air conduction hearing aids, bone conduction hearing aids, middle ear implant hearing aids, cochlear implants, auditory brainstem implants and assistive hearing devices such as remote microphone systems; each types of hearing aid devices are mentioned operational mechanism and applied indications, measuring efficacy of fitting and use of hearing aid devices periodically.
