Nutrition situation of HIV/AIDS diseases at out - patients clinic of the center for tropical diseases at Bach Mai hospital in 2019 - 2020

Abstract

The study was conducted to assess the nutritional status of HIV - infected patients at the outpatient clinic of the Tropical Diseases Center of Bach Mai hospital in 2019 - 2020 using a cross-sectional descriptive survey method. Subjects included 395 HIV-infected, non - pregnant/non - lactating, HIV-infected men and women aged 18 years and older who were managed in an outpatient clinic. The results showed that, according to body mass index (BMI) classification, 20.3% of patients were malnourished, of which severe malnutrition (BMI < 16) accounted for 0.5%; classified according to SGA (subjective nutritional classification method): 38% of patients are at risk of malnutrition, of which the risk of severe malnutrition (SGA C) is 5.3%; classified by albumin and serum prealbumin for malnutrition rates of 1.3% and 8.1%, respectively. Research results show that malnutrition or risk of malnutrition in HIV/AIDS patients is quite high. Therefore, it is necessary to integrate nutritional assessment, counseling and support into regular care and treatment activities at outpatient clinics to support HIV patients with a reasonable diet, contributing to the growth of HIV/AIDS patients. enhance the effectiveness of HIV/AIDS treatment.
