Abstract

Availability of material and human resources at vaccination sites is very important to ensure the safety and quality of vaccination, especially in mountainous areas. A cross - sectional study was conducted in 16 vaccination sites to describe the current situation of material and human resources during December 2020 diphtheria (Td) vaccination campaign for children
7 years old in the mountainous district of Tran Yen, Yen Bai province. In-depth interviews were conducted with health station chiefs at vaccination sites receiving unsatisfactory results to figure out the reason for unsatisfactory vaccination sites. Results demonstrated that 15 (94%) sites had sufficient human resources and 9 (56%) sites had sufficient material resources.
Eight (46%) sites did not have enough medicine and supplies in the anti - anaphylaxis kit as prescribed because health station directors did not know about this condition or thought the condition was scarce. Seven (46%) sites did not meet the requirements for the organization of vaccination sites because health workers did not know about or did not believe in the importance of post-vaccination areas to prevent adverse events following immunization. It is necessary to pay attention to the content on causes and ways to reduce adverse events following immunization when training on vaccination safety for grassroots staff and to strengthen the supervisory role of health station directors at vaccination sites.
