Prevalence of surgical site infections at Viet Tiep Friendship Hospital, Hai Phong in 2021

A cross - sectional descriptive study was conducted at all surgical departments, Viet Tiep Friendship Hospital, Hai Phong from March 2021 to June 2021 aims to describe the current status of surgical site infection (SSI) in surgical patients. The result showed that in a total of 2866 patients, the proportion of men
was 57.8%; for women was 42.2%. The highest rate of patients in the age group of 50 - 59 years old was 32.0%; the lowest group was ≥ 60 years old (8.4%). The mean age of the patients was 44.3 ± 11.2 years old. The majority of patients had a hospital stay of 8 - 14 days (57.0%). The rate of SSI was 4.3%. The rate of postoperative superficial SSI accounted for the majority of 67.2%; followed by postoperative deep SSI at 32.0%; organ/space SSI was 0.8%. Hospitals need to apply special infection control procedures in the operating room to minimize the risk of SSI.
