Investigation of drug treatment in outpatient type 2 diabetes at Hai Phong International Hospital in 2020

A retrospective study was conducted to investigate drug use in outpatient type 2 diabetes at Hai Phong International Hospital during the period from July 1, 2020, to December 31, 2020. The results of the analysis of 4402 prescriptions of 708 patients with an
average age of 63.5 ± 9.5 showed that the most commonly used hypoglycemic drugs were metformin (87.9%) and sulfonylureas (76.5%), the most commonly used regimen was the combination of metformin and a sulfonylurea (63.7%). The proportion of patients achieving the HbA1c target in the group of patients 18 - 64 years old and older than 65 years old was 57.1% and 53.8%, respectively. However, the rate of inappropriate dosing according to renal function is relatively high, the drugs with the highest rate of inappropriate dose were Glibenclamide (68.3% of prescriptions), Sitagliptin (66.7% of prescriptions), Empagliflozin (55.6% of prescriptions) and Metformin (44.5% of prescriptions).
