Treatment adherence among elderly patients with hypertension and some related factors at Viet Tiep Friendship Hospital, Hai Phong, 2021

The objective of the study is to assesses treatment adherence and some related factors of the elderly patients with hypertension at Viet Tiep Friendship Hospital, Hai Phong, 2021. A cross - sectional descriptive study was performed on 250 hypertensive outpatients from age 60 or older in cardiology clinic. The study results indicated that 77.6% (55.23 ± 8.66) of participant were equal treatment adherence level. In which, adherence to antihypertensive medications was 81.4%, adherence to periodic medical examination (75.2%), adherence to diet (68.4%), adherence to weight control, psychology, and measurement home blood pressure (66%); The lowest rate was exercise adherence (42%). There was no different means between treatment adherence and sex, disease duration (p > 0.05). There was a statistically significant difference between hypertensive treatment adherence and age group, caregiver group and education level (p < 0.05). Thus,
it is necessary to propose some intervention solutions to improve the treatment adherence behavior of the elderly with hypertension at Viet Tiep hospital, especially the elderly group, with low education level, no caregiver.
