Epidemiological characteristics of injuries and the situation of frst aid for injured patients at Hai Phong Children's Hospital in 2019

A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted in order to describe epidemiological characteristics of injuries and the situation of frst aid for injured patients at Hai Phong Children’s Hospital in 2019. The information was collected from the medical records and the questionnaires of self-created accidents under injury prevention program stored in the hospital. The results showed that injuries were mainly found in boys, accounting for 66.8%, aged 1-4 years (41.2%) and in suburban areas
(57.7%). The accidents usually happened at home (60.6%) with the main cause being falls (62.4%). Most children did not receive frst aid (77.9%). The main method was bandaging (77.3%) with the help from the child’s relative, accounting for 60.0%. The percentage of victims who were taken to the Children’s Hospital immediately was the highest at 67.6%. The main method of treatment applied in hospitals is surgery with the propotion of 45.6%. Most children was cured (99.1%), only 0.6% of them died. Thus, the boys aged 1-4 were the subjects most often caught injury and the majority of children do not receive frst aid.
