Abstract

A cross - sectional descriptive study carried on 224 patients at Bach Mai hospital from 2018 to 2019 to describe some epidemiological and clinical characteristics of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients. The results showed that the mean age was 59.4 ± 10.9 years (range 28 - 86) and the male/female ratio was 5/1. The proportions of hepatitis B virus (HBV) was 75.5% and hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection
was 2.2%, of hepatitis B and C virus coinfection was 3.1%. Barcelona - Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) staging classification had the highest BCLC B (45.7%), followed by BCLC C (23.8%), BCLC A (20.2%) and the lowest BCLC D (10.3%). There were still many cases of HCC detected at a late stage, and it is necessary to strengthen early cancer screening and prevention of hepatitis B.
