Overweight, obesity status and some associated factors at home of preschool children at Dong Anh district, Hanoi in 2019

The study aimed to describe the situation of overweight, obesity and some factors related to nutritional care at home of preschool children at Dong Anh district, Hanoi in 2019. A crosssectional study was conducted with 5234 children and theirs care-givers in 09 preschools of Dong Anh district, Hanoi. The results show that the proportion of children with overweight and obesity accounts for 8.23%; boys with higher rates of overweight and obesity than girls; Children over 60 months of age have the highest rate of overweight and obesity compared to other age groups. Children with gluttony characteristics have risk of overweight and obesity 5.56 times higher than normal children. Children with a preference for sweets, fatty foods, too much lean meats, and eggs which have a signifcantly higher risk of overweight and obesity than children without these hobbies. From the results of this study, it is possible to conclude that obesity rates in preschool children of Dong Anh district is high, parents need to pay attention to risk factors related to gender, eating preferences of children and give proper nutrition care in order to reduce the risk of overweight and obesity in preschool children.
