Epidemiological characteristics of vulvovaginal candidiasis among reproductive age women at 103 Military Hospital, 2019-2020

The aim of investigation is to describe the epidemiological characteristics of vulvovaginal candidiasis among reproductive age at 103 military hospital, 2019-2020. A cross-sectional study was performed at the 103 Military hospital, from October 2019 to September 2020. A total of 500 patients with a diagnosis of vulvovaginal candidiasis completed a questionnaire survey and collected vaginal discharge samples for the detection of fungal infections. The results showed that, 261 (52.2%) vaginal discharge samples had yeasts. Higher prevalence rates were found on 18-30 year olds, pregnancy, oral contraceptives, intrauterine device, and using condoms. Vaginal candidiasis had a most common set of symptoms, such as abnormal vaginal discharge, vaginal itching. The most common Candida species associated with vulvovaginal candidiasis were Candida albicans, Candida glabrata, Candida tropicalis, and Candida krusei in more than 75%. In that, C. albicans was the most common species (57.1%), followed by C. glabrata (17.6%)
