This study utilized data of a health system strengthening project to describe result of a key population (KP) friendly model of HIV prevention services in Thai Nguyen. The data included semi-structured interviews and questionnaire with clients using services at clinics before and after implementing the KP friendly model, and feedback of health staff post KP friendly model implementation. Data were collected according to 5 components of a KP-friendly model criteria published by the Vietnam Authority of HIV/AIDS Control and Prevention, Ministry of Health, including (1) understanding the KP community, (2) friendly, accessible, qualified services, (3) friendly, community connected environment, (4) qualified and friendly staff, (5) good management and feedback mechanism. Results showed that higher proportion of clients’ feedback in post implementation indicated that clinics met criteria in 5 components of KP-friendly model, compared to pre implementation. Qualitative results showed that clients were more satisfied with the facilities, attitudes, and expertise of health staff; and health staff were more confident in communicating and providing health services to clients. The KP friendly model had good results in having clients to uptake services and improving clients’ satisfaction.
