Abstract

The study was conducted to describe the situation of maternal mortality in 2022 in 31 northern provinces/cities of Viet
Nam. A retrospective descriptive study of maternal deaths in 2022 of 31 provinces collected information on 45 maternal deaths. Complications and deaths at home were 53.3% and 33.4%, respectively. Gestational age at maternal death was mainly in the last 3 months (84.5%). The most fatal time was after giving birth from 2 - 42 days (40.2%), followed by within 24 hours after giving birth (33.4%). Maternal deaths were mainly due to direct causes (62.2%) of which hemorrhage accounted for 31.1%. Thus, in the 45 maternal deaths in 2022, mainly in the Northern Midlands and Mountains. Complications and deaths at home still account for a high rate, these are preventable cases if detected and treated early.
