A cross - sectional descriptive study was conducted in Hanoi from 2009 - 2020 to determine some epidemiological characteristics of Dengue fever (DF). A retrospective study from diseases surveilllance system in the Statistical Yearbook of Infectious Diseases annually was conducted. The results showed that in the 12-year period from 2009 - 2020, Hanoi recorded the largest outbreak in 2020 with 45.187 cases and 28 deaths. In 2012, with only 1.368 cases and 0 deaths showed that DF cycle tended to be faster with a 2-year cycle. The average number of DF cases varied between months, peaked from July to November, especially the highest average number of cases (3.607 cases) in October. DF circulated every years around in Hanoi and concentrated in August, September, October and November period. However, the number of death were increased in July and November together with DF increasing. DF case fatality rate in Hanoi (2009 – 2020) was unevenly varied between years. Therefore, it is necessary to focus on all measures to prevent dengue epidemics before occurring, spread, and during the epidemic season (July – December), especially applying measures to kill larvae and mosquitoes to reduce dengue cases.
