Author: Pham Thi Kim Lien, Nguyen Thi Van Anh, Tran Thi Thanh Hoa, Nguyen Thai Son and Dang Duc Anh
Summary:
Total of 200 strains of drug resistance and sensitive MTB were selected in 2007 - 2010 representing for the North, and the South of Vietnam. This study showed 7 out of 8 lineages of the major MTB strains in the world appeared in Vietnam, including the Beijing, EAI, H, LAM, T, Manu, and Haarlem. This indicated the high polymorphism of MTB strains isolated, and the two main MTB strains families of Beijing and EAI are predominated in both regions of Vietnam, the Beijing family was the largest group among the spoligotyping lineages. Nonetheless, some strains were not identified in the Fourth International spoligotyping database. These might be new and not yet recorded in this database. The main finding of this study is to map out the difference of distribution of MTB strains between both areas and currently different characteristics of drug sensitive MTB strain versus multi-drug resistant MTB strains
