Author: Nguyen Thanh Quan, Nguyen Van Thanh, Do Thi Thanh Toan and Le Thi Thanh Xuan
Seasonal influenza is an acute respiratory infection caused by influenza viruses. In Vietnam, common types of seasonal influenza viruses are influenza A H3N2, A H1N1, and B. Everyone is susceptible to influenza viruses, especially pregnant women without Influenza vaccination. Because of using influenza vaccine is known as the best way to protect people from influenza viruses. This article summarizes the influenza vaccines and reviews some studies on utilization of the vaccine among childbearing age women both in Vietnam and International countries. The results showed that inactivated influenza vaccine is recommended for pregnant women at any stages of pregnancy, as suggested by both Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and World Health Organization. In Vietnam, influenza vaccination is recommended for all pre-pregnant women and for pregnant women during influenza epidemics. International studies found the prevalence of Influenza vacination among child-bearing age women ranged from 10% to 71%. In Vietnam, the coverage of vaccination ranged from 12.4% to 35%. There have been a large number of studies on influenza as well as surveys on knowledge, attitudes and practices of people on the prevention of influenza A/H5N1 viruses and influenza A/H1N1 viruses. However, the topic in Vietnam has been largely lacking and is recommended for further research in coming time
