Author: Duong Cong Thanh, Nguyen Thi Thanh Ha, Hoang Thi Thanh Ha and Nguyen Anh Tuan
Men who have sex with men (MSM) have become one of the high risk populations for HIV transmission in Vietnam.
HIV epidemic tends to increase or unstabilize among MSM in many places. There is significant evidence that MSM
practicing multiple risks including drug use and sexual risk behavior. Overall, there is a decreasing trend over time of
injecting drugs among MSM. However, significant evidence shows that use of amphetamine-type stimulants (ATS)
has been associated with risky sexual and injecting behavior; studies suggest that ATS use in Vietnam is increasing.
This suggests that HIV intervention and prevention services need to be scaled up taking into account specific risk
behavior reduction for MSM in Vietnam
