Genetic variability of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus population of several provinces having border with Laos and Cambodia

To analyse the genetic relatedness and phylogeographic structure of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus, we collected sample from 20 localities throughout Vietnam (Ha Tinh, Thua Thien Hue, Quang Tri, Long An and Dak Nong). Amplification and sequencing in a fragment of the Mitochondrial Cytochrome Oxidase subunit I gene (COI) identified 37 distinct haplotypes. The high genetic diversity observed combined with clearly delineated cluster gathering mosquitoes from the different provinces. Several mosquito individuals did not fall within any of the clusters. The COI mosquito haplotypes found in the five provinces covered by the study and distributed over the 10 clusters identified have been described in other parts of the world
